One Can Trust - Centenial Collection - 10th Sept 2015
As part of our Centenary celebrations, we asked members to collect 100 items of food for the local food bank - The One Can Trust. With generous donations from members, we collected a total of 121 items which we handed over to Heather from the One Can Trust at our September meeting.
In the last 12 months - September 14 to August 15, the One Can Trust has provided 3,088 food parcels, which averages out at almost 300 per month.
3551 adults and 2588 childre, that's 6139 people have been provided with food. Roughly 520 people per month are being supported and this number is increasing.
Taking into account the different sizes of food parcels, £100,000 worth of food has been provided in the last 12 months.
In the four years that the One Can Trust has been in operation, they have delivered 8144 food parcels, three fifths of these have been in the last eight months.

For our centenial meeting, our members split into groups, made displays and cooked food from each decade, covering 1915 to 2015. So we had all sorts of food to sample, including ration book boiled cake, fish paste sandwiches, cheese and pineapple on sticks and black forest gateau. Plus our 100 yrs carrot cake. The displays showed life during the 100 years that the WI has been around.
Just in case you thought we always dressed like photo, some members dressed up to show the fashions and activities of their decades. Below shows our President Jean and Secretary Judith who were in the 1970-1990's group.
